Rohini Singhs striking debut novel, The Time Manipulators Son, is due to be published later in 2014 but is already drawing comparisons to some of the young adult sci-fi genres best.
Madison, WI (PRWEB) August 29, 2014
The early returns for The Time Manipulators Son, Rohini Singhs upcoming young adult sci-fi novel, portend a bright future for the book as bright, perhaps, as the half-moon that blazes in the sky above the storys richly imagined home planet of Chyspah.
The Time Manipulators Son tells the story of three twelve-year old boys from Chyspah whose lives are on the precipice of monumental change. Daniel experiences bizarre episodes of time travel, Benardo witnesses things beyond his imagination, and Anomar, son of the planets Supreme Leader, learns that he was adopted and that his natural parents belong to a species of aliens with supernatural powers. As the boys work together to get to the bottom of their individual mysteries, they cross paths with friends and enemies of all shapes and sizes, and must confront threats both seen and unseen.
Rionne Boyke, a senior legal officer from Trinidad and an early reviewer of the book, praised the brilliantly constructed, whimsical world of Chyspah and its delightfully original blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and Caribbean cultural flavor. She added that the books many adventures remind readers about the magic of childhood and the power of friendship, and lauded its refreshing and insightful take on familiar themes of prejudice, bullying, and pre-adolescent angst.
Boyke is not the only one to sing the books praises. Azina Hosein, also of Trinidad, called Singhs imagination out of this world and commented that while reading it, she felt like she was inside a movie. Naseem Mohammed, from New York, called The Time Manipulators Son a colorful, delightful, and simple to read book that had me laughing and excited to discover [along] with the kids. And Raj Singh, a production manager from New York, wrote that the author of The Time Manipulators Son has given a new meaning to the [term] creative writing.
Singh is the first female sci-fi novelist from Trinidad, and its impossible to miss her home countrys multicultural influence on the book. The species of Chyspah include a wide range of alien species living together among them, humans from Trinidad. These characters give readers a colorful splash of Trinidadian culture, including rich descriptions of their home cuisine and their unique propensity to lime (party) even in the direst of circumstances.
Wade Fransson, founder of Something or Other Publishing, has high hopes for the Singhs novel. The richness of Rohinis storytelling is striking. She transports us into this strange and fascinating world full of species, sights, and technologies that, in classic sci-fi style, she also explains. The answer to my question about how Trinidadians happen to reside on Chyspah was one of my favorite aha moments in the book. SOOP is excited to be able to share Rohinis far-reaching vision with our own humble little world.
