Weather clears up for Buhl Day celebration in Hermitage

Posted: Updated:
HERMITAGE, Pa. -

The 35th annual Buhl Day began with a community parade and continues with a day of events that are fun and inspiring for young and old.

Buhl Park in Hermitage is the setting for what has become a day long tradition for families that flock to Mercer County every Labor Day.

Music, live entertainment, children's games and activities, inflatable rides, petting zoo, pony rides, puppet shows, and an art and photography show are just part of the fun.

Some of the most popular annual events include a car show and a mermaid show at the pool with synchronized swimming performances.

The very first Buhl Day parade was organized in 1916 by Shenango Valley industrialst Frank Buhl and his wife, Julia as a community celebration to honor the men and women of the labor force. The celebration went on hiatus during World War II and did not resume again until 1979 when volunteers revived the program.

Several people are being honored for their volunteerism and donations in remembrance of the Buhl Family..

No through traffic is being allowed in the park during the events. Public parking is permitted on both sides of the roadway as instructed. Free shuttle service is available to senior citizens.
