Family BBQ raises money for charity

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -

For the third year, a family held a barbecue to collect donations for a Valley agency.

In 2012, Liam Dreier was scalded severely and spent a lot of time in Akron Children's Burn Unit.

Thankfully, he healed and his family has held an annual to celebrate his birthday and giveback. In the past, they've gathered toys for Akron Children's Mahoning Valley in Boardman and Home Safe in Ashtabula.

This year, Someplace Safe in Warren was the chosen agency. "Instead of just doing the annual toy drive that we've done the past two years, this year we opened it up to toiletry items; toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, other things the women and kids need besides toys," said Katy Dreier, Charity for Children BBQ.

The event was held at the Horse Shoe Bar in Warren. In 2013, Someplace Safe sheltered 135 women and 118 children.
