Firefighters in Trumbull County fought off flames and frigid temperatures while responding to a home in Cortland.

Heavy smoke and fast moving flames destroyed the garage of this home in the 300 block of Denman Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Multiple crews from several area departments inlcuding Bazetta, Champion, Howland and the Vienna Air Base helped Cortland firefighters stop the fire from spreading.

It's believed Mother Nature helped play a role in putting out the flames quickly, with chilly strong winds kept the fire at bay from spreading into the house.

"It actually pushed the fire, helped confine the fire to the garage, instead of pushing it into the house," David Rea said, Cortland Fire Chief.

No one was inside at the time of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
