Trucker hauling wine arrested on drunken driving charge

Posted: Updated:
KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Broome County Sheriff's deputies say the driver of a tractor-trailer carrying 80,000 pounds of wine has been arrested on a drunken driving charge.

The Press & Sun Bulletin reports that Jae Ehrgood of Madison, Pa. had a blood-alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit. A sheriff's deputy noticed the vehicle swerving and stopped it. Ehrgood said he was hauling wine at the time. Officials say Ehrgood failed a sobriety test and his blood alcohol was .25. The legal limit is .08.

He was arrested on a charge of aggravated drunken driving. It was not immediately clear whether the driver had a lawyer who could comment on the charges against him.
