COPY-Funeral arrangements made for Youngstown fatal fire victims

Posted: Updated:
Funeral arrangements have been completed for the three victims who died in a fire in a Youngstown home on Monday.

A prayer service for William and Judith Schmidt, and their granddaughter, Corinne Gump has been scheduled at the Davis Becker Funeral Home in Boardman for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Calling hours will be held at the home from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m, following the prayer service.

A funeral service will be conducted for Corinne at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m.

Family members say the remains of William and Judith Schmidt will be cremated.

Meanwhile, the memorial of flowers and other items continues growing in front of the Powers Way home where the fire broke out.

Members of the victim's family were allowed access to the house for the first time.

Youngstown fire investigators, the state fire marshal, insurance investigators, Youngstown detectives and representatives from the county prosecutor's office were back at the scene on Wednesday.

Fire officials say the bodies were discovered on the second floor. The grandfather was on the floor next to a bed. The grandmother and the child were huddled together on the floor.

Investigators are still trying to discover what caused the fire just hours before the granddaughter was to testify at the trial of her accused rapist.

Prosecutor Paul Gains said that the postponed rape case will likely go forward, but no new trial date has been set.
