Report cites numerous problem at Dayton women's prison

Posted: Updated:
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A state report finds several problems at a state women's prison in Dayton, including inappropriate relationships between staff and inmates.

The report was released last week by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee. It noted the availability of prohibited substances and problems with mental health services among other issues at the Dayton Correctional Institution.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the committee inspected the prison over four days in February.

The report said several staff members have been fired or forced to resign, including the man in charge of investigating inappropriate staff/inmate relationships, due to allegations of inappropriate contact with inmates, including sexual contact in some cases.

Ohio prisons spokeswoman JoEllen Smith says the agency takes allegations of staff misconduct seriously.
