Mahoning Ave. to remain open after TV show postpones shoot

Posted: Updated:
AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio -

A stretch of Mahoning Avenue in Austintown will be open as usual Thursday after the filming of a local TV production was postponed.

Mahoning Avenue was originally set to be closed between Lipkey and Turner roads from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in order to facilitate the shooting of a new episode of Discovery Channel's Fat N' Furious: Rolling Thunder.  The stretch of road is directly over Meander Reservoir.

According to Mahoning County Engineer Pat Ginnetti, the show was planning to race cars on the aforementioned stretch of road; however, the shoot was canceled because of the weather.

There is no additional word on when shooting will be rescheduled.

Ginnetti also noted that because it would have occurred during normal business hours, the filming would not have cost the production company any money.  The Engineer's office would have simply put up detour signs.

When shooting is rescheduled, the production company will maintain access on Mahoning Avenue for emergency vehicles and local residents.  In addition, detours for vehicles weighing over 17 tons will be maintained by the Mahoning County Engineer's Office employees.
