Youngstown Sideliners and East High Panthers present 1st annual throwback game

Posted: Updated:

The Youngstown Sideliners is the booster club that supports the sports teams for the Youngstown City Schools.

On August 28, 2015 the Sideliners will present the first of a series of throwback games starting with the North High Bulldogs, the first city school to close, versus the Ursuline Irish.  The Panthers will be outfitted in North High Bulldog jerseys and will pay homage to key North High athletes with an on field tribute. Those to be honored include:

- 1973 880 Relay State Track Championship Team – Earl Taylor, James Smith, Jimmy Morrison & Tyran Purdue
- Coaches – Clifton Knox, Joseph Conley & Herman Jackson
- Standout Players – Sherman Smith & Anthony “AJ” Jones / The entire 1970-1971 football team

The purpose of this game is to bring the community together. This throwback game will be an opportunity to honor great athletes from the city’s past while celebrating and encouraging the athletes of today.

The Sideliners have planned a fun-filled event for the whole family. There will be tailgating and vendors at the Rayen Stadium from noon until 5 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m. North High helmets will be raffled off and other Bulldogs paraphernalia will also be available.
