Ohio groups releasing report on criminal justice reform

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The ACLU of Ohio and the Ohio Justice and Policy Center are releasing a report detailing recommendations for criminal justice reform in the state.

The groups have scheduled a news conference Tuesday to discuss the recommendations that will be presented to the Ohio General Assembly Criminal Justice Recodification Committee. That committee is working on rewriting Ohio's criminal laws.

The ACLU and the Ohio Justice and Policy Center say their report will include suggestions focusing on subjects such as prioritizing rehabilitation and depopulating prisons and jails.

At issue with this report and other efforts around the state is streamlining Ohio's laws to ensure public safety while reducing the number of people sent to prison, especially for low-level crimes.
