A former valley golf course is about to become pasture for cattle.

Copeland Hills Golf Club in Columbiana closed last August because the owner was having financial problems.

On Tuesday, the county auctioned off the 125 acre course.

The high bidder was local farmer Justin Garwood. He had a winning bid of $695,000.

Garwood says he has no intention of using the land for golf.

He says the land is perfect for his cattle.

"The land has gently rolling ground. The fairways would make great pastures. It suits what we are looking for," says Garwood.

Copeland Hills Golf Club opened in 1962.

It's one of at least five golf courses in the valley to close over the last five years.
