Feds indict man caught with 88 pounds of cocaine in Mercer County

Posted: Updated:

A Michigan man, caught driving a truck in Mercer County with 88 pounds of cocaine, now faces a federal charge.

A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Carl McDaniel, 52, of St. Helen, Michigan on one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

On March 22, Pennsylvania State Police pulled over McDaniel's truck for a safety violation along Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township.

Troopers searched the trailer which was carrying fruit, and turned up 40 kilograms of cocaine and a small amount of marijuana.

McDaniel also faces charges of possession with intent to deliver drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating unsafe equipment in Mercer County Court.

If convicted of the federal charge, McDaniel could face up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

A federal warrant has been issued for the arrest of McDaniel, who is currently being held in the Mercer County jail.
