Farrell steelworkers approve strike authorization

Posted: Updated:
FARRELL, Pa. -

According to local union President Tod Clary, workers at Farrell steelmaker NLMK voted unanimously Wednesday to give their union bargainers authorization to strike.

400 members of United Steelworkers Union Local 1016-03 voted to give their bargaining committee the power to accept or reject contract proposals from NLMK, as well as recommend a strike if deemed necessary.

USW workers staged a day-long informational picket across the street from NLMK's Farrell factory on Thursday.

A similar picket was held by the union earlier this month.

The union members have been working under a contract extension since the previous pact expired on April 2.

Clary says the bargaining is focused on issues such as health care, pensions, wages, and benefits.
