YSU receives $100K NEA grant

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Youngstown State University will hold a news conference Thursday to announce a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

YSU will receive $100,000 as a part of the National Endowment for the Arts' creative placemaking grants.

The city of Youngstown and YSU are partnering with numerous arts and culture organizations to explore community, economic and cultural development opportunities which will benefit the city's residents. 

“Receiving a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts is like winning the top prize in a funding contest,” Mike Crist, interim dean of YSU’s College of Creative Arts and Communications and one of the grant application authors.

The news conference will be at the McDonough Museum of Art on Wick Avenue at 1:30 p.m.

YSU President Jim Tressel and Mayor John McNally are scheduled to give remarks.
