A veterinarian doesn't believe that someone cut out a dog's tongue as claimed earlier on an Animal Charity of Ohio Facebook page.

The post, made on Sunday, said that it appeared that a dog found in Youngstown had its tongue cut out and teeth filed down, possibly to use the animal as a “bait dog”.

According to the ASPCA, bait dogs are used to train other dogs to fight.

Bubbles, the name given to the dog by Animal Charity, was examined by a veterinarian on Monday who determined that it appears he was born without a tongue and has adapted to eat and drink.

The vet says the dog would not have survived it its tongue been cut out.

At 66 pounds, the vet says Bubbles is at a healthy weight.

It is not known why his teeth were filed down, but the veterinarian says that bait dogs usually have their teeth removed entirely.

The vet says that scars on the dog could be evidence that he has been involved in fights, but it is not known if they came from organized dog fighting.

Animal Charity officials are taking Bubbles to Akron for another veterinary opinion on its condition, and how it got that way.

Anyone with information about who owns Bubbles is being asked to contact Animal Charity at (330) 788-1064.

Animal Charity is looking for donations to cover veterinary care and food for Bubbles, as well as someone to adopt him.
