Investigators say hospice nurse stole dying patient's drugs

Posted: Updated:

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a Pennsylvania hospice nurse stole a dying cancer patient's medication and blamed it on a sore neck.

The Citizens' Voice in Wilkes-Barre (WILKS'-ba-ree) reports (http://bit.ly/2bAYgb7) Andrea Gosiewski told authorities she had her own pains and that the medicine wouldn't have saved the man anyway.

Investigators say they also found a methamphetamine lab at 39-year-old Gosiewski's Ashley borough home. She was ordered on Wednesday to Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

Investigators first found the woman passed out in a vehicle outside a drugstore Monday with a bag of liquid hydromorphone and a used syringe.

Authorities claim Gosiewski stole the leftover medication at least five times and used it to get high.

Erwine Home Health Care says Gosiewski had been fired.

No attorney information is listed in online court documents.
