Lowellville man presented with father's diploma more than 70 years later

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio -

There was a unique presentation at Lowellville's School Board meeting, Thursday night.

Jeff Hartman and his wife were presented with Hartman's father's high school diploma. John Harold Hartman was given the diploma in 1942 but, the diploma had the wrong middle name.

The superintendent at the time presented John Hartman with a hand-written letter, as a way to rectify the error until a new diploma could be issued. That day came more than 70 years later.

"He would have probably been the first one (in our family) to go for 12 years and graduate from high school so I'm sure it would have meant a lot and we all followed and certainly all graduated high school and college," said Jeff Hartman.

Hartman says his father served in the war after graduation.
