Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Year

Below are our 2016 Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week recipients.  Now, it’s your turn to vote for the 2016 Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Year!

You can read about the weekly winners below and watch the plays above. Then, go to the bottom of the page to cast your vote.  Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.

Week #1 - Willie Mitchell - Struthers Wildcats

The Liberty Leopards played at the Struthers Wildcats last Thursday night.  After the Leopards scored to pull to within one point at 7-6, the Wildcats Willie Mitchell returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a 14-6 lead.  Due to a weather delay, the game was completed on Friday with Struthers winning, 42-14, behind Willie Mitchell’s “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for week 1. 

Week #2 - Colt McFadden - Poland Bulldogs

Poland trailed Niles, 17-3, at one point last Friday night.  But Colt McFadden booted a 30-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs their first lead at 19-17.  Poland went on beat the Red Dragons, 26-23, on the strength of McFadden’s clutch kick – our “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for week #2

Week #3 - Jordan Edmondson - Newton Falls Tigers

This week’s “Muscle Connection Play of the Week” happened on the very first play of the Mineral Ridge at Newton Falls game.  Jordan Edmondson of Newton Falls took the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a score, giving the Tigers an early lead in a game they would go on to win against the Rams.

Week #4 - Samari Dean and Victor Williams - Howland Tigers

In an AAC game at Poland, Howland trailed the Bulldogs, 34-28, in the 4th quarter.  That’s when Tigers QB Samari Dean hit Victor Williams with an 80-yard scoring strike.  The big TD pass won the game for the Tigers, 35-34, making it our “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week.”

Week #5 - Dra Rushton- Liberty Leopards

Campbell Memorial hosted Liberty on Friday night.  The Leopards held a 7-0 lead with Red Devils driving when Liberty’s Dra Rushton picked up a fumble and raced 60 yards for a touchdown – our “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for Week 5.

Week #6 - Brannon Brungard and Austin Trebella - Springfield Tigers

This week’s “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” happened in New Middletown on Friday night, where Brannon Brungard’s 25-yard TD pass to Austin Trebella in overtime gave the Springfield Tigers a 34-27 win over the South Range Raiders in a Week 6 thriller.

Week #7 - Lynn Bowden - Warren Harding Raiders

Warren was the site of the “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for Week 7.  Harding QB Lynn Bowden’s spectacular, zig-zagging 52-yard sprint to the end zone, his 4th TD of the day, helped the Raiders top the Boardman Spartans, 46-15, on Friday night. 

Week #8 - Jaylen Hewlett - Cardinal Mooney Cardinals

With Cardinal Mooney clinging to a 28-21 lead at Warren Harding, the Cardinals Jaylen Hewlett scooped up a Raiders fumble and raced into the end zone.  It was the difference in the game and our “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for Week #8.

Week #9 - Walton Allie - LaBrae Vikings

Friday night in Girard, after the Indians scored to cut LaBrae’s lead to 41-35, the Vikings’ Walton Allie returned the ensuing kickoff 86-yards for a score.  LaBrae went on to win the game, 48-42, behind the Allie’s “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for Week #9.

Week #10 - Jonathon Voland and Noah Laster - Jackson Milton Blue Jays

On Friday night, Jackson-Milton and Mineral Ridge were tied at 7-7, when Blue Jays QB Jonathon Voland tossed a pass to Noah Laster, who came down with a great TD catch.  The “Muscle Connection High School Football Play of the Week” for Week #10 helped the Jays win the game and secure a playoff spot.

    The Scrappers won for the first time at Eastwood Field this season 5-4 in 10 innings against Auburn.  Jonathan Laureno's walk off RBI double scored Oscar Gonzalez to send everyone home happy.   Auburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with the first four batters reaching base. Paul Panaccione and Randy Encarnacion drove in the Doubledays runs. The Scrappers evened the scored in the bottom of the inning, Samad Taylor scored on a wild pitch, and Will Benso...

    Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown, Ohio defended his title at the Mill Creek Foundation Junior All Star tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association. Moldovan shot a 68 for a three day total of 203, finishing three strokes ahead of Aaron Du of Lake Mary, Florida. Taylor Kehoe of Strathroy, Ontario captured the girls division at 205, after shooting 67 on the final day.   Manhue Chen of China placed second, six strokes back.
