Liberty schools celebrate opening of new fitness center

LIBERTY TWP, Ohio -

It's one of only three in Ohio and it's located right above the gym at Liberty middle school.

Students, parents and members of the Liberty community are encouraged to get moving at the DON'T QUIT fitness center. The National Governors’ Fitness Council award the school $100,000 to for the new facility.

"It definitely helps me improve with my basketball and volleyball, the sports that I play, a lot of different machines here," said Nysa Gilchrist a Liberty 8th grader.

The middle school has four basketball teams and trainers say the fitness center will give them an additional space to use during practices.

Ohio Governor John Kasich joined the students in a ribbon cutting ceremony outside the gym Monday. He stressed to the students about the importance of exercise and how it can positively impact their performance in the classroom.

"We're always trying to do what we can to keep people healthy, all the way from being an infant to when they get older," Kasich said.
