Two promoted at Warren Fire Department

WARREN, Ohio -

Two members of the Warren fire department are moving up in the ranks.

Captain Bill Gadd and Lieutenant Randy Stelk raised their right hands during a swearing in ceremony Monday morning, inside the city's central fire station.

Lt. Stelk says having experienced members move up helps the community, because they know the streets and how to navigate through the city.

Retention among the younger ranks is one of his priorities as he and his peers try to pass along the best practices.

"It's more efficient for them to have people with more time on, more experience, but you also have to have those young people to bring them on and have those experienced people teaching them what they know," Lt. Stelk said.

He says the passage of the city's income tax keeps manpower in place along with shorter response times.
