One Health Ohio to open two medication assisted treatment facilities in 2017

Within the next six to nine months, two new medication treatment centers will open in the Mahoning Valley.  Ohio Health Ohio will open ACT Center for Recovery facilities in Youngstown and Warren.  For the last three years, One Health Ohio has been offering medication assisted treatment at its health facilities.  However, the demand for those services keeps growing.  So, the health system will open separate facilities to address behavioral health and substance abuse disorders.  At the facilities, patients will be able to receive monthly shots of Vivitrol, an injectable drug that blocks the effects of opiates, as well as one on one and group counseling services.

"We don't want individuals coming in and just receiving the medication because medication is only a tool.  It is not by any means a cure for substance use disorders.  You have to use them together in order to have the best treatment outcomes.  So, the goal is to have the patient come in, get our medication and in the meantime learn the skills necessary to change their addictive behaviors and move towards abstinence including their medication," said Misty Long with One Health Ohio.

People must be clean for at least 7 to 14 days prior to getting the injection.  One Health Ohio is hosting an information session on Thursday from 5pm to 6pm at its Youngstown Community Health Center.  To reserve your seat, call 1-844-652-8219.
