The Victorian Players announce dates for their annual holiday show

Posted: Updated:

The Victorian Player’s, in Conjunction with Centaur Stage Productions, have announced the dates for their annual traditional holiday show, "In the Spirit of Christmas."

“In The Spirit” is an evening of three holiday themed one-act plays expressing the joy, hopefulness, and happiness the season can bring.

This year’s production includes three scripts, all of which are making their stage debut, and all written by nationally known playright Dwayne Yancey of Virginia. "In the Spirit of Christmas" is directed by Sam Luptak, Jr.

The three one-acts are:  “Svetlana’s First Christmas Away from Home”, written specifically for the Vic. It tells the story of a seemingly ill-fated church Christmas pageant and how it is saved by a foreign exchange student who is far away from home and the traditions of her far away land. This production features more than 20 children as well as adults.

“Jose’ and Maria, A New Twist on an Old Story” puts the Christmas Nativity story into modern times as an immigrant couple seeks refuge at an overfilled hotel, while local astronomy professors discover a new star, and pizza girls with angelic names find themselves delivering pizzas to the scene of a special, blessed event.

“A Zombie Christmas” actually involves no zombies, just some mixed up grandparents who will do anything to make their granddaughter’s Christmas special. This sweet and heartwarming show is sure to make you smile with the spirit of the season.

"In the Spirit of Christmas" runs Fridays and Saturdays, December 2, 3, 9, & 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, December 4 and 11 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $9.00 for seniors and students.

For reservations, call 330-746-5455. All proceeds of the show benefit the Victorian Players Handicap Accessibility Project.

Victorian Players Theatre is located at 702 Mahoning Avenue, in Youngstown.
