Work begins to clear up brown water in Youngstown neighborhood

Work is underway to correct a problem that has caused brown water to pour from faucets for several months in homes in a neighborhood on Youngstown's South Side.

After testing pipes along Thalia Avenue, the Youngstown Water Department concluded that sediment has been building up in the low parts of sagging water lines.

To resolve the problem, a contractor began work Monday to replace 1,500 feet of the main water line extending from Thalia to Sheridan Road.

The $241,000 project should take four to six weeks to complete.

No interruption in service is expected.
