Berlin Center woman struck and killed at Southern Park Mall

Posted: Updated:

The Mahoning County Coroner has identified the victim of a pedestrian accident outside the Southern Park Mall as a Berlin Center woman.

The coroner's office said on Wednesday that 65-year-old Judy Dailey died from head injuries.

An autopsy concluded that the woman died within minutes of being struck by a pickup truck outside an entrance to J.C. Penney, shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Dailey was leaving the store and was under the canopy of the package pick-up area when she was struck by the truck.

The truck apparently had jumped a curb, traveled down the drive-way and struck a concrete post. The truck was disabled and stopped in the parking lot.

A man, believed to be the driver of the truck was first place in a police cruiser but later transferred to an ambulance.

The extent of his injuries is not known.

The truck is owned by American Environmental Group.  A company spokesperson said they are cooperating fully with authorities on the investigation but had no other comment.

Boardman police say they did interview witnesses at the scene and are working with the state highway patrol on an accident re-creation.

The coroner's office is waiting for the results of toxicology tests before making a ruling on the death.
