Salem K-9 finds gun, cash, heroin and cocaine

SALEM, Ohio -

Reports of a suspicious person led Salem Police to arrest of one man with a gun, cash and drugs.

Police say 35-year-old Michael Betts Jr. of New Castle appeared to be nervous when they questioned him early Monday outside the Suburban Market on Newgarden Avenue.

After discovering that Betts' vehicle had fraudulent Michigan license plates and that his driver's license was suspended, the officer brought in Salem's K-9, Simon to help conduct a search.

Police found a a loaded handgun, 27 grams of suspected heroin, 84 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and nearly $900 in cash.

Betts was taken to the Columbiana County Jail on a weapons violation.

    The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate a ride accident which resulted in the death of one person and injured seven others. The accident occurred at the Ohio State Fair Wednesday evening on a ride called the Fireball, which is operated by Amusements of America. Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus, Ohio, was pronounced deceased at the fairgrounds.
