BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio -

A witness in a murder trial who crashed a car in Boardman Tuesday morning while running from authorities, surrendered to U.S. Marshals on Wednesday.

21-year-old Raymond Ortiz sped away in a car when Marshals attempted to arrest him in Youngstown.

Marshals chased the car into Boardman, where it crashed into a utility pole along Melbourne Avenue near West Boulevard.

Ortiz fled the scene leaving two passengers inside the wrecked car.

As authorities searched the area for Ortiz, officials at the nearby West Boulevard School canceled recess for students.

Ortiz is a witness in the trial of Kimani Hodges and Angel Bell, who are charged in connection with the death of 20-year old Jason Fonsesca, who was shot six times outside his Ayer's Street home last February.

The trial, which was to begin this week, had to be postponed when Ortiz fled from authorities..
