Children rescued from Struthers standoff reunited with mother

STRUTHERS, Ohio -

Police say four children rescued during a standoff in Struthers on Monday are in good health and back in the care of their mother.

The children were taken to the hospital after being brought out of the 8th Street home last evening about an hour before police apprehended Shaun Dixon.

The 37-year-old Dixon had held law enforcement agencies at bay for four hours following a domestic argument at the home.

Dixon's girlfriend ran from the home and called 9-1-1.

Police say they used a taser on Dixon after he struck one of their cruisers with a baseball bat.

Dixon ran back into the home until negotiators filled it with pepper spray.

Officers arrested Dixon in the home at around 7 p.m.

Police say Dixon is still in the hospital being treated for a pre-existing health condition.

Charges are pending.
