State Police in Mercer County are investigating a report from a 65-year-old Jackson Township woman who says she was scammed by someone claiming to be a Microsoft Customer Service employee.
The woman called a phone number she found online, thinking it was Microsoft Customer Service.
The caller found out too late that the number was not Microsoft, but was used to contact a scammer, according to police.
Police say the scammer pretended to be customer service and gained access to the victim's bank account.
The scammer then moved money from her savings into her checking account.
Claiming he has made an error, the scam artist convinced the victim to buy iTunes gift cards to replace the money, claiming that otherwise he would lose his job.
Police say the victim purchased almost $2,000 worth of gift cards and gave the scammer the card numbers.
