Boil alert lifted for Youngstown and Austintown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

The boil alert that was in effect since Wednesday for parts of Youngstown's West Side and an eastern portion of Austintown has been lifted, according to the Youngstown Water Department.

A contractor struck a major distribution water line along North Meridian Road, cutting or reducing service to the area until repairs could be made by Thursday morning.

Due to resulting low water pressure, the Youngstown Water Department had recommended that all water customers in the affected area boil their water that is used for drinking and cooking. This was for residents and businesses east of Raccoon Road, north of New Road and west of Bella Vista.

Water samples were taken and examined and no contamination was found. The water is now considered safe to drink.
