New changes for I-80 drivers in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties

Updated:

There is good news and bad news for the thousands of drivers who have felt dizzied by the challenges of trying to navigate through construction along Interstate 80 in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

The good news is that the Ohio Department of Transportation plans to re-open the ramp leading from Interstate 80 eastbound, to US Route 422 in Girard at 7 p.m. tonight.

The ramp has been closed since last July for a project that wasn't scheduled to be completed until this coming July.

The bad news is that two more ramps are closing at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The ramp from State Route 711 northbound to Interstate 80 eastbound will be shut down.

ODOT says it will detour drivers along 711 northbound to Gypsy Lane, then to State Route 193 through Liberty, to I-80 eastbound.

Also, the ramp from I-80 eastbound to State Route 11 northbound will close Tuesday morning.

The detour is Interstate 680 southbound to State Route 711 northbound to State Route 11 northbound.

Both ramps will be closed through December.

The closures are part of a major project to widen Interstate 80 in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

The last time the landfill was in the news was 2013 when the Department of Environmental Protection denied Tri-County a permit application for expansion.
