NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -

The New Middletown Police Department is offering free bicycle helmets this month.

The police department has been given 70 helmets from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The helmets are valuable to anyone who goes to the police department Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and  4:00 p.m.

The Pro Rider helmets are available in several sizes.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition, police are issuing "safety citations" to children who are seen wearing a helmet.

In cooperation with AAA, the citation can be redeemed for a free children's meal at the New Middletown Subway restaurant.
