Girl killed in crash involving reversed vehicle on parkway

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A 2-year-old girl has died in a crash on Interstate 279 near Pittsburgh that involved one of two vehicles driving in reverse.

State police say the crash happened about 1 a.m. Thursday near the Perrysville Avenue ramp in the northbound lanes of the highway known locally as the Parkway North.

Police say both cars were northbound before one reversed and drove backward in the wrong direction and was hit by the other car. It's not clear why the car was in reverse or which car the dead girl was in. But police say she was not in a child seat or wearing a seat belt.

Three other people have been hurt in the crash, but their names and conditions weren't immediately released.

The crash closed the highway for about four hours.
