Valley native and former MLB pitcher speaks at Steel Valley FCA golf outing

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Former MLB pitcher and Valley native Dave Dravecky made a stop in Youngstown to share his message of perseverance.

Nearly 30 years ago, Dravecky beat cancer in his pitching arm only to break that same arm during a game.

On Monday, he served as the guest of honor at the Steel Valley Fellowship of Christian Athlete's golf outing.

"Our kids need to know they are valued and even on their worst day, they are loved because we have a world that is in this place where we are exposing our kids to all of these different things and if they don't match up, then they feel less than," said Dravecky.  "I think one of the beauties of FCA is helping them understand who they really are."

For the past five years, Dravecky has been working as a community ambassador for the San Francisco Giants.
