Pennsylvania resident loses $14,000 to scammers

Posted: Updated:

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania State Police say a county resident lost $14,000 in a gift card scam.

Troopers tell the Easton Express-Times (http://bit.ly/2rQW4a1 ) the scammers convinced the unidentified Lehigh County resident to buy iTunes and Steam gift cards between May 30 and June 6. Steam is a distribution platform for PC, Mac and Linux video games.

The victim then called the scammers with pin numbers to the gift cards.

State troopers did not say what the victim was told before purchasing the gift cards.
