Manufacturer reveals reason for closing Alliance plant

ALLIANCE, Ohio -

A more than century-old manufacturer in Alliance released the reason why it will be closing its doors in a few months.

T&W Forge has informed workers that it intends to permanently close its plant at 562 W. Ely Street after losing the business of a key customer.

SIFCO Industries, T&W Forge's parent company, issued a press release stating that T&W Forge will begin shutting down operations immediately.

Company officials expect the plant to be completely shut down by mid-October.

A notice filed with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act states that most of the 37 employees will be permanently laid off between September 15 and September 29.

All but nine of the employees are members of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers.

The SIFCO Industries press release said the closure of T&W Forge will improve profitability.

The company says it intends to bargain with the Union regarding the impact the shutdown will have on their members.

The T&W Forge website says the company designs and manufactures forgings for industrial gas turbine blades and other equipment.
