Car break-in at Boardman Y leads to $8,500 shopping spree

Posted: Updated:

Credit cards stolen from Boardman Y parking lot were used for an $8,500 shopping spree on Thursday afternoon.

A Poland woman told authorities her driver's side door was broken into and three credit cards were stolen along with $100 cash.

The victim went into the YMCA around 9 a.m. Thursday.

She left her purse and electronics in the car.

At noon, she began receiving notifications from PNC and Discover alerting her of suspicious charges.

According to the police report, when she went outside, she found that the handle of the door looked like a screw driver had been hammered into the door lock.

The suspect spent around $8,500 split between two of the three credit cards. They purchased iPads and several $400 Visa gift cards.
