Most Valley roads open after severe storm flooding

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Several Valley roads have opened since Monday afternoon after floodwaters from storms the night before begin to recede.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Himrod Avenue exit onto Interstate 680 Northbound is now open.

All other lanes of Interstate 680 reopened earlier Monday.

ODOT officials said that State Route 165, also known as W. Salem Road in Columbiana, has reopened between Route 46 and State Route 62.

The closures began around midnight Sunday with the South Avenue area exit. Drivers were being forced off the exit due to a large puddle that, at the time, was about two-and-a-half feet deep.

Workers from Youngstown and the Ohio Department of Transportation were out all night, putting up signs and barricades to close off certain areas. A sergeant with YPD told us that he hoped the water would recede soon for drivers.

Spokesman Brent Kovacs said there's no estimated time for all roadways to reopen, and that officials are just waiting for the floodwaters to recede.
