Campbell Public Library temporarily closed after roof problems

Posted: Updated:

The Campbell Public Library on Sanderson Avenue is temporarily closed until further notice because of several issues involving its roof.

Trustees from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County met in special session Monday and approved funding for a partnership with Campbell City Schools for a library space.

Campbell Schools Superintendent Matthew Bowen presented information on the project to the Library Board and answered questions from Trustees.

Residents of Campbell attended the meeting to show their support of this project.
Architect Brett Hendricks of BSHM Architects Inc. of Youngstown, the consultant for the library on the Brownlee Woods, Struthers, Campbell consolidation project, said he felt the shared space with Campbell Schools was an option worth considering.

Hendricks said the Campbell Branch would need extensive repairs and that the roof is in need of replacement.

The roof system has shown significant signs of failure, with roof blisters over most of the area.

Water has even begun to enter the roof after heavy rains hitting the Valley.

Hendricks said they are still considering options for the Brownlee Woods and Struthers libraries after meetings with the public.

A combined branch could also be possible, but there is no report available for that yet.

In the interim, the Library is considering an additional day at Struthers Library and providing a pop-up library service in Campbell.
