As Boardman works to battle the heroin epidemic like many other communities, city leaders are working with those who live in the township to find ways to get rid of the dealers, and find help for the users.

On Friday a home in the one hundred block of Wildwood Drive was raided by the Boardman Police Narcotics Unit and three people were arrested.

The goal is to work with the prosecutor and have the home declared a nuisance so they can shut down the alleged heroin house.

For the third time since March the Boardman Police Narcotics Unit served a search warrant at the home looking for drugs.  Neighbors are thankful, but fearful to some extent to get involved.

A woman who did not want to be identified tells 21 News, "This has been going on since about November of 2016 right after they moved in.  Cars pulling in and out of there sometimes two times a day.  I get all different vehicles into my driveway then they realize that they got the wrong house.  But I am really scared for my life."

Some residents have shown up at trustee meetings saying this alleged heroin house has got to go.

Now city leaders are working to have it declared a nuisance through the courts, after one of the alleged drug customers overdosed.

Tom Costello is a Boardman Township Trustee, "There was a Narcan incident here probably in the last 30 to 60 days I believe.  And once again they were using the drugs here.  They actually had to call for us to save one of their people.

Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols says, "Not only are they selling here, but they're using here.  It's not an uncommon thing from what I understand from our drug investigators.  Like the business model of the drug dealer has changed somewhat and using at the site rather than buying there and carrying it away has become more common."

As the three suspects were led out of the home in handcuffs and placed in police cruisers to be taken to jail, Dawayne Roddy, 31, of Boardman was asked by 21 News, "Were you selling drugs out of here?"  Roddy responded, "Oh no, hell no!"  "We're you selling heroin?"  Roddy again responded, "I wasn't selling any drugs?"  "Did someone overdose in there?"  Roddy responded, "I'm not sure."

Also arrested, Mike Forgach, 41, of Boardman, who was just indicted on Thursday in Mahoning County on charges of Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine and Permitting Drug Abuse.

Syrena Whitfield, 26, of Boardman is also charged and arrested at the home.

All three suspects face charges that include Permitting Drug Abuse, and could face more charges if suspected heroin found in the home during this most recent search tests positive.

"I'd rather have a boarded up house than a drug house and I'm sure these neighbors feel the same way," Trustee Costello said.
