Man pleads in burglary that left 1 suspect with severed hand

Posted: Updated:

EASTON, Pa. (AP) - An alleged accomplice of a man whose hand was severed during what authorities called a home invasion last summer in Pennsylvania has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and burglary.

Prosecutors in Northampton County have agreed to recommend a minimum eight-year sentence when 44-year-old Ronald Mumbauer Jr. is sentenced July 21. Eight other counts were dropped.

Authorities alleged he was one of three men involved in the July home invasion in Northampton during which the resident said he defended himself with a machete after finding masked men in his basement.

Fifty-five-year-old William Andrews Jr., whose severed hand was later reattached, was convicted in May of aggravated assault, burglary and related offenses and sentenced to 13 to 30 years. A third man is also charged in the case.
