Police escort funeral procession after massive brawl

Posted: Updated:

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Several police cruisers escorted a funeral procession in Ohio after a fight broke out at the church service for a homicide victim.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2tSQovw ) several officers responded to reports of more than 100 people fighting at a Dayton church Thursday morning. The church was hosting funeral services for Jamal Colvin, who was shot to death July 3.

It's unclear if anyone suffered injuries from the fight.

Officials say more than 15 Dayton police and Montgomery County Sheriff's cruisers escorted the funeral procession to prevent further violence.

Officials say a vehicle showed up to the procession with one occupant brandishing a gun. Officers chased the vehicle, but later terminated the pursuit.

Officials say they believe the violence was retaliation for Colvin's death.
