Ohio woman says police responded to 911 call hours late

Posted: Updated:

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio couple who called 911 after a bullet shattered their kitchen window says emergency dispatchers told them police were too busy to respond.

Desiree Miles says the bullet came through the window at their Canton home around 11 p.m. Wednesday. She says her husband first called 911 at 11:10 p.m., and they were told officers would be there soon.

Miles called again around 11:45 p.m., 12:25 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. By the last call, she says dispatchers told her not to call again unless it was a "life or death emergency."

She tells WEWS-TV police finally arrived around noon Thursday.

The Canton Chief of Police says they have spoken with the Mileses and they will "investigate this matter fully."
