A Beaver Township woman tells police that she suspects a former online gaming partner hacked several of her social media accounts and posted nude pictures of her.
The 26-year-old woman told police that someone hacked one of her old Facebook accounts and posted nude pictures of her that she says were being stored on a cellular cloud.
The woman says she had taken the pictures for her husband and didn't realize that the pictures had been placed on the cloud.
She told police that she received nude pictures of herself from a fake Snapchat account along with messages asking for more nude pictures.
The woman later received a text message claiming responsibility for sending the pictures.
She says the man who sent the text identified himself as someone who was part of her online gaming group who she first became acquainted with online about eight years ago, but never actually met in person.
The victim says the group stopped letting the man participate in the group after learning that he had lied about family and other personal information. However, he rejoined the group about four years ago, according to the police report.
The woman says that the man, who police say lives in Tennessee, admitted to hacking several of her accounts including Facebook, Snapchat, Discord, Instagram, Paypal, and Skype, as well as three of her email accounts over the past four years.
She says last month she received a threat over her Discord account saying “I know where you live. I can make you disappear if I want to.”
Discord is a text and voice chat app for gamers.
The woman told police she has since closed old accounts and created new ones using new passwords.
She says money taken from her PayPal and directed to a fake account has been refunded.
Police say no charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
