Muscle Connection H.S. Football Preview: Howland Tigers

Posted: Updated:

The Howland football team won seven games in a row in 2016.  They hope that same formula stays with them in 2017.

Quarterback Samari Dean is back for his second season as the starter. "He's a competitor. His greatest attribute is played in 10 games last year and got us on a roll," said Dominic Menendez.

Menendez is entering his fifth season as the Tigers head coach.

The Tigers have 42 players and besides Dean are counting on linemen Brandon Matlock, Noah Bell and linebacker Chris Julian. "He's a great defensive player and got a great nose for the football," Menendez said in reference to Julian. "We need him to make a lot of plays for us."

With four starters back on offense and two on defense, the Tigers have to look at some young players. "We're going to be young in the back end of both sides and in the backfield on offense and the secondary," Menendez said. "But we want to be aggressive and try to fit our personnel as best we can."

The Tigers have to have a great mental attitude each week.
