Muscle Connection H.S. Football Preview: Hubbard Eagles

Posted: Updated:

The last time the Hubbard football program had a losing season, 1998.

The Eagles are primed to make it another playoff season, but return only three starters on each side of the ball.

The Eagles are counting on some young guys to step in. "We have a new batch of seniors coming in. They've had good role models the past two years to  look up to, and now it's their turn to fill those voids." said coach Brian Hoffman

There are only three starters returning on offense but they play key positions. "We return De'Veon Daniels, a quarterback who played the position a year ago and Tyreek Moore at running back, who was close to 1,000 yards last year as a junior. Probably would have gone over 1,000 yards but he missed a couple of games with an injury. So those two guys will be a focal point of the offense.  Up front, Hunter Myers is a three-year starter for us at center. So again, a lot of leadership at the positions, making calls, line calls and things of that nature," Hoffman said.

Defensively is a similar situation for the Eagles with three starters back. "Two inside linebackers, Lucas Mosora and Ryan Havlick led our team in tackles a year ago. We're relying heavily on those two guys to make plays for us, from tackle to tackle. In our secondary, Raymond Netti did a nice job for us last year. He was an all conference player. So we'll rely on him as a safety for us," Hoffman said.

With so little returning, are the Eagles in a position to make it 19 straight winning seasons?  "I'm optimistic about this group. I think we have a coachable group this season and guys who have bought into our system here. Many of them have been in the program now for three years, so we're optimistic, see how it plays out." said Hoffman.
