Muscle Connection H.S. Football Preview: Lowellville Rockets

Posted: Updated:

The Lowellville football program expects to be better under second-year coach Doug Velasquez.

The Rockets bring back experience and talent.  "We lost only four seniors, so we have the majority of our team coming back. Like I  said, they've been working hard. They've been committed to getting better. They've learned the culture and what's expected they needed to do." Velasquez said.

And winning is something the Rockets didn't do last year. "We've got to win. Our kids are going to have to learn how to win. We didn't win a game last year. So these guys, when we get that first win, who knows what can happen. I think they've worked hard and they know what it takes. When we get that first win and that is going to be big for us." said Velasquez

The Rockets return seven on offense and eight on defense. "Dylan Slaz is going to be a senior. Akele Minch is a lineman, Carl Larosa is our starting quarterback and Jake Rotz will be back. Matt Fizdek was big last year as a sophomore. Most of the guys are coming back and will help us out. Nate Solak, who came out last year, he was a basketball kid. He made some big plays last year at defensive end. Vinny Casor started as a freshman last year. He played inside linebacker for us all nine games. He had a great freshman year. He's going to be a sophomore. I expect some real big things from him." said Velasquez
