Youngstown police are investigating after the body of a woman was found in a trunk in Niagara Falls, New York.

Police tell 21 News that officers got a call Wednesday just after 4:30 pm from a man who said his brother was distraught and had told him that he stabbed his girlfriend and was on his way to Niagara Falls, New York.

Shortly after that call, Youngstown detectives received a call from the mother of 28-year-old Anvia Mickens who said her daughter's boyfriend's brother said his brother was distraught and said he stabbed his girlfriend and was on his way to Niagara Falls.

Youngstown police filed a missing report and then put out a nationwide pickup alert on the vehicle.

The vehicle was located in Niagara Falls, New York in a hotel parking lot according to police.

The suspect has been arrested and is now in custody in New York. Officials have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Jeshawn Elliott.

Youngstown Police Lieutenant Doug Bobovnyik confirms the body of a deceased female has been found in the trunk of the car.

But at this point, they can not confirm if it is the young woman that is reported missing from Youngstown.

Detectives are working with the Niagara Falls New York Police Department and will have to wait on a coroner in the area to identify the body.

It's unclear how the victim died or what condition the body was in.

Detectives say the suspect and the 28-year-old missing woman were both from Youngstown.  A home in the 200 block of Outlook was searched but it's unclear who lived there.

Youngstown police say that at this point it is unclear where the crime may have happened, but that they are investigating the situation as a homicide.

The missing woman's car was located in downtown Youngstown Wednesday evening, near where she works. Crime scene investigators will be investigating the vehicle.

Dispatchers from the Niagara Falls Police Department confirmed to 21 News that they have been in contact with Youngstown police.  Youngstown Detectives say this is an ongoing police investigation.
