Fire damages Circle Restaurant in Deerfield

Posted: Updated:

Early Friday morning, firefighters worked to save The Circle Restaurant in Deerfield Township.

While the outside of the building on the roundabout at Route 224 and Route 225 appears ok, the owner told 21 News that is not the case inside.

"There is a lot of damage,"  said owner Chuck Donato.

The Circle Restaurant has been in his family since the 1980s. It has been around for much longer though.

He said it's the outpouring of support from customers that's getting him through this.

"I have had people offer to start fundraisers, offers to start GoFundMe pages, people asking what can we do to help, how can we help," said Donato

Firefighters suspect an electrical circuit caught fire in the wall and it spread to the roof and attic quickly.

An employee there cleaning noticed smoke and called 911.

Even though the volunteer fire department is close by, still heavy damage was done.

Donato said they may even have to consider rebuilding.

"We will reopen, we will rebuild and we want everyone to come back," he said.

Many customers who pulled into the parking lot around dinner time were surprised and disappointed that one of their favorite spots to eat is closed indefinitely.

Richard Hudkins and his friends drive in from Akron just for the Circle Restaurant.

"It's the people, the food, everything is homemade and it's just that good. It takes us a half an hour to get here if that and it's a nice drive. I hope they open again," stated Hudkins.

Donato said he hopes to reopen as soon as possible.
