YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

A jury in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has found a Boardman man not guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl who is autistic.

Eric Damore was charged with rape and gross sexual imposition after being accused of forcing the child to engage in sex in October 2014.

The jury got the case Thursday afternoon and deliberated for about an hour then resumed its deliberation Friday morning.

The panel came back at around 11:30 am and told the judge that they found Damore not guilty on both counts.

The 43-year-old was arrested at his Firnley Avenue home early last year following an indictment handed up by the Mahoning County Grand Jury.

Damore could have been sentenced to life in prison if he had been convicted.
