Mahoning County hosts an Addiction Victims Gala

Posted: Updated:

In Mahoning County, hundreds came together on Thursday for an all-day lesson in creating a community for those whose loved ones suffer from addiction.

The Coalition for a drug-free Mahoning County hosted the conference for counselors, paramedics, EMTs, clergy members, and anyone else who comes into contact with overdose victims and their family.

Many of them, bringing a personal touch to the mission of solidarity.

"A lot of people don't reach out because of stigma and shame, the only way it's going to help a situation is to step forward. They will be happy that they did," said Anna Howells, from GRASP, a grief recovery program.

The group also stressed that there are support groups across Mahoning County for those who have lost a loved one to addiction, and whose families members are currently addicted.
